Painkillers such as Ibuprofen or Paracetamol may help, but immediate treatment would be required.Signs of infection include swelling around the site of the broken tooth and nearby tissue, throbbing pain and sometimes a fever. It is important that the infection be drained (if possible) and the source of infection (for example, a badly broken and decayed tooth) be removed. Antibiotics may be required in some cases.
