Although Mother Philomene lacked funds, supplies and equipment, she called on the local community for support. It was only in the previous year of 1871 that girls had been allowed to sit for the Matriculation exam for the beginning time. Yet the Sisters not only taught the pursuits perceived as feminine, they made safe that the girls were given an educated in subject such as Algebra, Latin and Euclid. Accepting languages and culture through relationships and exchange. These inter school relationships complement the Language Scrutinize Tour Programs and permit Emmanuel students unique opportunities to: immerse themselves in language and culture, participate in exchange programs and to welcome students from overseas into their own homes, College and community. The Sister school relationship provides Emmanuel students a valuable immersion experience in the language and culture of Japan, attending school at Oberlin Tall and staying with a host family along with some tourist travel as a group. In alternate years Emmanuel families have the opportunity to host a student from Oberlin and earnings from the cultural exchange. Students can excel when they are offered the opportunity to immerse themselves in language and culture. Emmanuel students commit to fund raising and make a contribution to the community by completing project work during their stay. Emmanuel College is a huge deposit to work. As members of the Emmanuel College community, we receive pride in our school, our surroundings and facilities, which are continually updated and maintained.
